The Forth Bridges and World Heritage Status

The Forth Bridges area has a separate tourism strategy focussing on being recognised as a sustainable, high quality visitor destination, offering great customer service underpinned by an emotionally valued global brand. This strategy is currently being managed and driven forward by Karen Stewart the Forth Bridges Area Tourism Strategy Manager. You can read more about the Forth Bridges Area on their dedicated website.

The Forth Bridge was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2015 joining only 1154 other sites worldwide of being of Outstanding Universal Value to all humanity. This is of great advantage to local businesses for the tourism boost of those coming to view the bridge.

The Forth Bridge is part of Scotland’s UNESCO Trail, pioneered by the Scottish Government, UK National Commission for UNESCO, designation representatives of the 13 UNESCO Sites, VisitScotland, Historic Environment Scotland, NatureScot and the National Trust for Scotland. Scotland is the first nation in the world to create a UNESCO trail. This will bring together the full range of UNESCO place-based designation categories (World Heritage, Global Geoparks, Biospheres and Creative Cities) whilst promoting responsible tourism.

The newly created digital assets include dedicated web pages hosted on VisitScotland.com, new itineraries, and videos.  You can find a dedicated toolkit on VisitScotland’s website on how your business can get involved.
