Anstruther’s Christmas Celebrations

Fri 23 Nov 18

Anstruther’s Christmas celebrations kick off on Friday, Dec. 7 with a reindeer-led Christmas Parade.

The local merchants association, TEAMAnster,  organised the Parade, diligently raising  funds to especially have reindeer as they’ve been missed over the years -- and TeamAnster happily accomplished this goal.

The Parade has been strongly supported by local businesses and organisations such as The Water-front, The Bank, the Community Kist, the Anstruther Community Council, McCarthy and Stone, and The Boathouse, who all made sizable financial donations towards the Parade and reindeer expenses.

And what a Parade it will be! What shopping, eating, and activities can be enjoyed!

Santa Claus and his reindeer escort will meet at Ladywalk House at 6pm and join local groups, civic organisations, church/school/play groups, and anybody else interested in walking in the Parade.

The Parade heads to the harbour-front Christmas tree, which The Waterfront Restaurant donated and the lights decorating it.  Walkers continue on Shore Street to Rodger Street, where the reindeer enter a penned-in area on High Street East (near Play.Art.Create and the Community Kist),  and Santa enters his grotto in the Sweetie Shop to visit with kids (advance ticket purchase needed).

Late-night shopping helps gift-giving folks with a wide variety of goodies for sale in the different shops along the harbour-front.  More shopping is at The Bank’s  Beer Garden Christmas Fayre, with twelve craft stalls and a late-night licence keeping live music playing till 2am.

Hungry?  Parade-walkers can enjoy a warming dinner or drinks at the variety of restaurants, cafes and pubs Anstruther has, either before or after the parade.

On Saturday, Dec. 8,  the Community Council Kids Christmas Party is at Erskine Hall from 1-4pm; a £2pp entry includes hot/cold drinks, disco, bouncy castle, and visit from Santa Claus with gift bag. Kids will be kept fed and fuelled for dancing with snacks donated by the Boathouse.

Sunday, Dec. 9, Tabletop Games are in the afternoon at Dreel Halls, while music-lovers can head to the Boathouse, where live music is performed 5-10pm.
