Returning with a series of market weekends throughout 2021, Bowhouse’s Market Weekend will open its doors for Fife makers on 13th and 14th March, giving Fifers the opportunity to visit and shop direct from the region’s finest food and drink producers.
Due to current travel restrictions, the market in the East Neuk is only open to Fife residents. Shoppers can pre-order using Bowhouse Link for collection before browsing for added extras on the day, or simply come along and select from the stalls.
Reconnecting shopper with maker, visitors can choose from a wide range of stalls offering essentials such as free range eggs, organic meat, locally grown vegetables and baked treats, as well as flour from Scotland the Bread mill and home supplies from eco-store Grain and Sustain.
This month’s specials from producers based at Bowhouse will include organic mutton from the nearby fields on Balcaskie Estate, sausages flavoured with stout and wild venison from Butchery at Bowhouse, alongside organic spiced rum and farmhouse beers from Futtle and a selection of Mother’s Day bouquets from Keeping the Plot.
Jess Rose Young will be preparing special Mother’s Day heat at home menu, priced at £15 per person and exclusively available on Bowhouse Link for pre-order. This includes slow cooked shoulder of Balcaskie lamb with harissa, rosemary and mint, spring greens with garlic and chilli oil, new potatoes, sumac, mint, spring onion, tzatziki and sourdough flatbreads for preparing at home. There is also the option to add a starter of local smoked mackerel pate and roasted rhubarb crumble dessert for £12 per person.
As well as produce made at Bowhouse, the market weekends also host a selection of traders from the local area, with goods including award-winning new make spirit from Lindores Abbey Distillery, non-alcoholic spirit Feragia, venison and game from Woodmill Game, vegan and gluten-free kombucha from Bad Gal Boocha, award-winning cheeses from St. Andrew’s Farmhouse Cheese, Eastfield Food with their hand-made fresh pasta, rare breed charcuterie from Good Life Farming and a wide range of craft beers from Blunt Chisel Brewery and Coul Brewery. McLaurin’s Coffee Bar will have their Land Rover Defender parked outside serving coffees and baking for takeaway.
The market will be open from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th March. For maximum ease on the day, visitors can pre-order food and drink online at Bowhouse Link for assured supplies for collection on Saturday. Bowhouse Link was launched during lockdown on the Open Food Network to enable customers to continue shopping from a range of artisan makers based at Bowhouse and nearby. Customers can select from different producer at the online store from Monday to Wednesday the week before the market weekend.
For added precaution and ease of use, a one-way system will be operating within the Market Hall, hand sanitiser points will be available throughout and contactless payment encouraged. Face masks must be worn inside the Market Hall.
