Calling all events supply chain businesses

Wed 17 Jun 20

Businesses who are part of the events and festivals sector supply chain in Scotland are being asked to respond to an urgent consultation about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their organisation as part of an industry-wide approach to recovery.

Following a series of virtual forums facilitated by VisitScotland’s Events Directorate and attended by more than 120 professionals from across the sector, the fragility of the supply chain during the pandemic was identified as a critical element in the plans for recovery of the industry.

A working group has now been established within VisitScotland and the group is keen to hear from businesses in the supply chain to understand in more depth the immediate and ongoing challenges of Covid-19.

One of the messages that came very clearly from our industry forums was the importance of the supply chain in the events and festivals sector and the need to protect it to ensure it plays a key role in restarting the industry when the time is right.

We are keen to hear from all businesses who are involved in the supply chain for events and would urge businesses to share as widely as possible to ensure we have as detailed a picture as possible of the ongoing challenges the sector faces."

Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events

For the purposes of this research, the definition of the Events Supplier Chain refers to all key third party organisations and contractors involved with the delivery of an event, including but not limited to: Security; Catering; Transport/Logistics; Utilities; Guest Management; Entertainment and Programming; Temporary Demountable Structures; Audio Visual and Technology; and Marketing and PR.

To gather this information, the group is already speaking to a number of key suppliers and industry representatives by telephone but, to ensure the widest possible consultation takes place, has created a questionnaire to provide all relevant businesses the chance to input.

To add your feedback and thoughts, please find the Events Supply Chain questionnaire for completion. The deadline for all responses is Monday 22 June.

The group’s findings will be added to those of four other associated workstreams - looking at funding; advice and guidance for running events; research and signposting to innovative and new ways of delivering events virtually - before being passed to the Scottish Government to collectively shape a sustainable recovery plan for our important industry.
