Cowdenbeath High Street has been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award as part of the Great British High Street Awards.
The Rising Star High Street award celebrates up and coming local communities who are on their way to transforming for the future.
Cowdenbeath is blazing a trail for creativity and digital connectivity. Thanks to strong relationships with the local schools, shopkeepers on the high street will soon be paired with a ‘digital buddy’. In exchange for improving their digital presence, the businesses will provide these young people with a genuine insight into how a small business works. Digital influences the visitor experience too. Plans are afoot to bring the town’s globally recognised mining mural to life with the use of augmented reality, and an interactive heritage trail is also in development.Creativity is key in increasing the town’s footfall too, with a focus on what bloggers and influencers can do for Cowdenbeath’s popularity. Elsewhere huge investments have been made in improving connectivity for cyclists and walkers, green spaces have been enhanced, and a number of urban art works introduced. Cowdenbeath is also working towards becoming a dementia friendly town.
