EIAG Meeting Update October 2020

The ninth meeting of the Event Industry Advisory Group (EIAG) took place on Tuesday 13 October, with the Group continuing to examine the ongoing implications of COVID-19 on the event sector.

During the meeting, the Group were given an update from Scottish Government representatives on the current status of the pandemic, the latest industry restrictions and the associated industry guidelines. The Group asked for urgent clarification from Government on the recent announcement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, of the expansion to the Job Support Scheme for Closed Business Premises.

Prior to the announcement, EIAG Chair Peter Duthie, had written to the Chancellor pushing the critical state of the event sector in Scotland and the vital need for further ongoing support given the important role this viable and necessary sector can play in the national recovery from an economic and public morale standpoint.

Updates for each of the priority workstreams were also given including the commissioning of research into the health and wellbeing impacts of event; the development of a series of webinars to share good practice with the sector, with the first webinar scheduled to take place on 30 October covering the recent golf and rugby test events in Scotland; immediate and future funding priorities; and the development of a detailed route map for the sector.
