STA EU Referendum Impact Assessment - Key Findings

Tue 23 Aug 16

Thank you to all 415 businesses who took part in the EU Referendum Impact Assessment we undertook in July. This was the highest level of engagement we have had to date in response to research we have conducted with our member base and the wider tourism industry.

The results tell us that as an industry, you're feeling that it's not all doom and gloom. Bookings remain very much the same, in fact some are up for the following 12 months.

However, the key theme to emerge from the research is the feeling of uncertainty within the industry and the 'not knowing' quite what the future holds for our tourism businesses in relation to the issues and areas which will affect the growth and success of our industry.

Much remains unknown at present – it is too early to tell what the implications of Brexit are for our industry, however we will be exploring the latest insights from Caroline Bremner, Head of Travel for leading travel and tourism forecaster, Euromonitor at our Autumn Conference and would urge you to book your place to bring yourself bang up to date. Deirdre Wells OBE, Chief Executive of UK InBound will also speak at the Autumn Conference and will set out how the decision to leave the EU has affected her members, and what the industry's priorities will be for the Brexit negotiations.

Please do book early – demand for places at the first post-EU Referendum industry meet is high.

We hope you will find the results interesting and please do continue to share your thoughts by engaging with the STA.

With best wishes
