Event Industry Advisory Group hold third meeting

Tue 21 Jul 20

The Event Industry Advisory Group (EIAG) held its third meeting on 9 July as it continues its work to represent Scotland’s events industry in the development of a sustainable recovery for the sector from the impact of Covid-19.

The 17-member group has now been joined by Marshall Dallas, CEO of the Edinburgh International Convention Centre, who brings further expertise and insight from Business Events to the EIAG.

At the meeting, Chair of EIAG, Peter Duthie, gave an update on his recent meeting with the Cabinet Secretary, Fiona Hyslop, who confirmed her continued support for the group and her wish to remain engaged and updated on their work.

The group also reviewed the recently published Scottish Government sectoral guidance for events, with further discussion around segmentation of the sector, development of test events and the process for approval of event plans. This will now be picked and actioned through the group’s relevant workstreams.

They were also presented with the findings from EventScotland’s recent Event Industry Supply Chain Survey.  The findings, which have also been shared with the Scottish Government to further inform a sustainable recovery for the events sector, highlighted the interdependencies across the sector and the critical support required by all aspects of the supply chain in order to remain operational in the future.

Finally, the appointed leads of the six priority workstreams updated on their progress so far, with Terms of Reference for each workstream being developed and initial meetings currently taking place.

This week we have seen another positive step forward as Scotland continues to emerge from lockdown with the reopening of the country’s tourism sector and launch of our Scotland-wide marketing campaign.

While we’re still waiting for events to restart, the Event Industry Advisory Group is continuing to work hard to address the concerns of the industry especially in what is a very dynamic situation. The recognition by the Cabinet Secretary of the group’s work should be reassuring to everyone in the industry that they are well represented during this time.

Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events

The Events Industry Advisory Group was established following an urgent need for an industry-wide body was identified by EventScotland’s industry forums to provide a co-ordinated voice for the sector during the national response and recovery plans from Covid-19.

The next meeting of the EIAG is scheduled for Wednesday 22 July. For any further questions or submissions to the group please contact [email protected]
