Event Industry Advisory Group Update October

Thu 28 Oct 21

Scotland’s Event Industry Advisory Group (EIAG) met this week to discuss a number of areas directly related to the Covid-19 vaccine certification scheme, Covid status app, guidance on audience checks at small and large events following feedback from the sector, and ongoing sector support.

The Group heard from the Scottish Government, who provided updates on the Covid-19 vaccine certification scheme, including updates to the Covid status app to enhance its functionality, and to make it easier for certification to be checked.   Businesses are being advised to update their customer COVID Verification App in order to continue to scan an individual’s vaccine QR codes and allow access to venues covered by the COVID certification scheme.

In addition, under planned changes to reduce the amount of personal health data being shared when using the app in venues across Scotland, individual users will simply be provided with a green tick to confirm they are fully vaccinated.

EIAG members also provided Scottish Government officials with feedback on the app, in particular highlighting practicalities of use across a range of settings, and the need for an increased communications campaign across varied demographics attending different types of events.  The group also voiced their concerns over refusal of entry for those who do not have a valid certificate and the impact this has on revenue and their staff members.  The group also tabled the need to be able to manage their own resolution processes within the context above.

The Scottish Government advised that it continues to monitor the scheme and requested ongoing feedback from the events sector with regards to the implementation of certification and any further improvements. The Group once again highlighted the need for additional support for the industry as part of its ongoing recovery.   It was noted that EIAG Chair, Peter Duthie has a scheduled meeting with Jenny Gilruth, Culture Minister next week to further discuss.

In addition to the above, general updates were provided to the Group on the ongoing work around Standard Classification Codes, the published Health and Wellbeing Research on events, and EventScotland funding streams.

The Group were also given an update on the programme launch for UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK - a celebration of creativity taking place across the UK in 2022, featuring free large-scale events, installations and globally accessible digital experiences in the UK’s most ambitious showcase of creative collaboration.    Details on Scotland’s commission for UNBOXED entitled Dandelion,  a project that has been commissioned by EventScotland and funded via the Scottish Government  were also shared.

A summary meeting note will be published soon from the meeting.  Further outputs from the group and representatives from the sector can raise any points for consideration by the group by emailing [email protected]
