One of Scotland's biggest motorsport festivals is among 21 events to be supported by the EventScotland National Funding Programme as part of VisitScotland's work to deliver the national events strategy Scotland the Perfect Stage.

Taking place on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September at Knockhill Racing Circuit, The Super Touring Car Championship has been awarded a funding boost of £5,000.

Fife Council are also supporting the event with funding from the Strategic Events Investment Programme.

The Super Touring Car Championship will feature over 130 of Scotland's top racing drivers compete in a wide variety of vehicles and championships across the weekend at Scotland's National Motorsport Centre.
The race meeting and 21 other events across 13 of Scotland's local authority areas are receiving a combined total of £232,700 awarded from Round 32 of the National Funding Programme.

The National Funding Programme - which is administered by EventScotland, a team within VisitScotland's Event Directorate - was established to enable the strategic development of events taking place outwith Edinburgh and Glasgow, with the aim of driving domestic tourism and increasing economic impact for local communities throughout Scotland.

Thanks to the funding, and in keeping with the objectives of the National Funding Programme, The Super Touring Car Championship will now be in a position to further develop by extending and enhancing its programme in order to increase attendance figures and improve the overall spectator experience.

Stuart Gray, Director of Events at Knockhill, said:

"We have been working on trying to attract the Super Tourers to Knockhill for a number of years and with the help and support of EventScotland and Fife Council, we are over the moon that the championship is coming north. In addition to a quality grid on track, the pit lane garages will feature a whole host of special exhibits that will be on display and being paraded too. The complement of racers and show cars will attract race fans from all over."

Manuela Calchini, VisitScotland Regional Director, said:

"I'm delighted that the Super Touring Car Championship at Knockhill has been selected as a funding recipient in the latest round of EventScotland's National Funding Programme - I'm sure that the financial boost will help to ensure the race weekend is a huge success.
"These funding awards for regional events provide invaluable support by helping them create an even more attractive proposition to draw increased attendance - not only from local areas but also from much further afield. That promotes the venues as excellent visitor destinations and contributes greatly to the region's economy - which is hugely important."
