Get Yer Kilt On for St Andrew’s Day this year!

Wed 31 Oct 18

To celebrate St Andrew’s Day this year, The Fife Tourism Partnership are raising awareness of Scotland’s National Day by appealing to members of the public, businesses and communities across Scotland to get into the spirit by uploading a picture or video of themselves wearing a kilt or tartan skirt to social media using the hashtag #GetYerKiltOn.

The campaign has been arranged to create a Scotland wide buzz on St Andrew’s Day this year and has already received support from Kilted Yogi Finlay Wilson, the Fife Flyers, the Provost of Fife, Local Tourism Associations and overseas ambassadors.

Selected images will be shared on Welcome to Fife social media channels on the run up to the event and a prize of a beautiful glass kilt made by Keny Drew at East Neuk Glass will be awarded to the owner of the ‘best photograph’.

For those who don’t own a kilt but would still like to take part in the campaign, there is a #GetYerKiltOn pack which includes a paper fold-out kilt and badge.

Locals and tourists are also being encouraged to attend the exciting events which are taking place in the town of St Andrews this year to celebrate St Andrew’s Day, 30th of November, which will include a Guinness World Record attempt to host the world’s largest ceilidh, a torch parade and huge fireworks display.

Commenting on the celebrations to mark Scotland’s National Day, Ann Camus, Fife Tourism Partnership Manager, said: “We are incredibly excited to be part of something special which raises awareness of St. Andrews Day in style. Tourism in Fife, and Scotland as a whole, continues to prosper year on year which is reassuring to see in a continually changing economic climate.

I would encourage everyone to #GetYerKiltOn and come and join us for a fantastic celebration.”

Provost of Fife, Jim Leishman, added: “St Andrew’s Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Scotland’s vibrant, cultural offering. This national flagship event presents the perfect time for Scots to join in the fun and wear their kilts with pride.”

For those who do not own a kilt but would still like to take part in the #GetYerKiltOn campaign, a physical pack including a paper fold-out kilt and badge can be sent by post. This can be requested by emailing promoting.fife@fife.gov.uk
