As tourism continues to reopen across the country, here's an update on plans for reopening our iCentre network, which will take a phased approach that puts the safety of our staff and visitors at the heart of what we do.
iCentres are a significant part of the community and we understand that there will be a desire to open them as soon as possible – we share that desire and want to support the tourism industry and communities as we come out of lockdown.
As part of our phased approach the following iCentres have now opened: Edinburgh, Balloch, Aviemore, Jedburgh, Aberfoyle, Oban, St Andrews, Pitlochry, Portree, Ullapool and Stirling.
This week (3 August), sees our iCentres in Inverness, Fort William, Dumfries, Perth, Glasgow and Aberdeen reopen.
First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, announced 5 August lockdown restrictions being reimposed in Aberdeen due to a coronavirus cluster in the city. As a result, we've taken the decision to halt marketing activity for Aberdeen for the next seven days and have taken the precautionary measure to close our Aberdeen iCentre.
The opening of our remaining sites (Dundee, Kirkwall, Lerwick, Stornoway, Craignure, Bowmore, Rothesay, Brodick and Ballater) will take place on a rolling basis throughout August.
We have had to make changes to the physical layout of each of our 26 individual iCentres to make these areas safe but welcoming for our staff and visitors and over the past few weeks, we’ve worked with busy suppliers to carry out these refurbishments as well as sourcing the relevant PPE. Our staff are also working on attaining the ‘We’re Good to Go’ accreditation to provide confidence for visitors coming into our iCentres.
Our reopening dates have been set out by the availability of our suppliers to do the necessary work and consultation with our staff to ensure the correct guidance is in place for the safety of our staff and visitors.
Though our premises may have been closed, our information services have been very much open for business, and like much of the industry, we’ve had to adapt to new ways of working through COVID-19 and have continued to provide information and inspiration.
Our iCentre team have skilled up and have been delivering visitor information through a range of other channels including a new messenger service we developed during lockdown, our iCentre telephone service and our email service as well as other customer channels.
There will be new measures put in place across our sites to manage physical distancing, and there will be reduced services on ticketing and retail, but rest assured our iCentre teams will continue to provide our visitors with the warm welcome that Scotland is known for. All our iCentres will initially have reduced opening times from 10am – 3pm.
Our iCentre staff have been working hard to get the centres reopened and are looking forward to being able to help visitors with face to face enquiries for the first time in four months.
