The Scottish Government has published guidance for event organisers (available here), allowing them to begin the process of planning for the return of events to Scotland.
All events were halted on the 23 March after both the UK and Scottish Governments called for an immediate stop to public gatherings of more than two people in a bid to flatten the curve of Covid-19 and protect the NHS. Although no fixed date has been confirmed for the return of events, publication of guidance will allow event organisers to prepare and plan for their return when rules allow.
The guidance, which has been developed with input from EventScotland alongside representatives of the events and festivals industry in Scotland, including the newly established Event Industry Advisory Group, gives recommendations as to how event organisers can return staff to work while minimising risk as well as planning for the delivery of events with appropriate health & safety protocols in place.
I’m pleased the Scottish Government has now published these guidelines and would like to thank the many industry colleagues, including the Event Industry Advisory Group, who provided feedback throughout.
The guidance will allow event organisers to further develop their planning for the return of events and although there are still many challenges facing the sector, including physical distancing, workforce retention and concerns regarding the supply chain, this is a step in the right direction for the staging of events once again in Scotland.
