Tue 4 May 21

Auchtertool based Black Pudding and Haggis producer The Farmer’s Son has earned a prestigious award at the inaugural Scottish Retail Food and Drink Awards for their handcrafted Black Pudding. The awards which celebrate the vast array of quality food and drink products locally produced in Scotland took place online on Friday 29th of April at a virtual awards ceremony.

After almost three weeks of intensive judging involving hundreds of products and more than 60 expert judges from across the food and drink sector, the results included a selection of outstanding Scottish products targeting retail listings in Scotland. The Farmer’s Son was presented their award by The Times Scotland Alba Editor, Gabriella Bennett, with judges commenting “Such a strong showing for The Farmer’s Son on the shortlist. A truly outstanding black pudding in gorgeous packaging.”

The winning Black Pudding by The Farmer’s Son is handmade in Fife, to a 100-year-old family recipe. Using all-natural, locally sourced ingredients including homegrown pork from the family farm, PGI Scotch beef and locally sourced oats and flour, to give the pudding its award-winning flavour. The award-winning pudding is also free from dairy, preservatives and additives.

Pete Mitchell, founder of The Farmer’s Son said, ‘To be recognised at such a fantastic celebration of Scottish produce is an honour. We are delighted to have our Black Pudding given the stamp of approval with such a prestigious award. It is a validation of our commitment to producing delicious food with real provenance. The feedback from the judges has been incredibly positive and we are thrilled that the flavour and the packaging was such a hit.’

The Farmer’s Son Black Pudding was just one of three products shortlisted for this award by the Fife producer, with their White Pudding receiving a Highly Commended accolade at the awards.

Helen Lyons, Scottish Retail Food and Drink Awards co-founder, added: “Congratulations to all of our winners. Looking at the range and diversity of the winning products and the companies and top brands that have entered, the quality, standard and innovation has not disappointed”.

“The Scottish Retail Food and Drink Awards were created not only to help producers secure listings but to help retailers unearth fantastic Scottish products to stock in their stores”

“With interest in locally, regionally and nationally sourced products arguably higher than ever among Scottish retailers and consumers, this is a fantastic time to win a Scottish Retail Food and Drink Award. I would like to congratulate all of the winners on their brilliant achievement.”
