2017 HAS BEEN DESIGNATED THE YEAR OF HISTORY, HERITAGE AND ARCHAEOLOGY, A YEAR THAT WILL CELEBRATE OUR COUNTRY'S UNIQUE HISTORY AND HERITAGE WITH A PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITY AIMED AT SUPPORTING AND DRIVING THE NATION'S TOURISM AND EVENTS SECTOR.
Scotland has a wealth of riches in history, heritage and archaeology. From World Heritage Sites to ancient monuments, listed buildings to historic battlefields, cultural traditions to our myths, stories and legends, the 2017 Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology will shine a spotlight on some of Scotland's greatest assets and icons, as well as our hidden gems.
History and heritage is already a key motivator for visits to Scotland and an important part of the visitor experience. As part of the year's celebrations, we are looking to create and expand opportunities for locals and visitors to participate and engage with event activity celebrating one or more of the themes.
SIGNATURE EVENT FUND
Scotland already has an enviable portfolio of existing events celebrating history, heritage and archaeology which will form a key part of the 2017 event calendar.
To add to this already rich and diverse programme of existing events, the dedicated 2017 History, Heritage and Archaeology Signature Event fund has been designed to support both new and existing events with additional elements celebrating one of more of the three themes.
Signature Events should be high profile and support the objectives of the year which include promoting Scotland, celebrating our achievements, encouraging significant participation and engagement and boosting both local and national tourism.
The fund is now open (Friday 13 May 2016) and receiving applications from the events and festivals sector across Scotland.
Events interested in applying for support should first familiarise themselves with the Guidance Note and Criteria document below.
The fund will accept applications for grants from £20,000 up to a maximum of £60,000.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 5pm on Friday 29th July 2016.
ADDITIONAL FUNDING SUPPORT
If your project does not fit the criteria of the Signature Event Fund, other funding routes may be available.
For example, The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is delighted to be an active and supportive partner in 2017's Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology. HLF has allocated funds, raised through the National Lottery, available for exciting new projects to help people up and down the country explore, enjoy, and share the heritage we all care about. As an additional resource, a list of other potential funding routes, including other EventScotland funding opportunities, can be found here.
An introductory 2017 Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology Toolkit is now live on visitscotland.org. This features free-to-use images and promotional wording.
An official logo has been designed to provide a cohesive, overarching brand for the year. To request the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology logo pack, please contact Aimee McAvoy, Marketing and Communications Executive: [email protected].
More information will be added to the toolkit as the year progresses.
