Bothy Kitchen, is a new finish at home meal producer set to open at rural food and drink collective, Bowhouse, as the programme for the summer Market Weekends are launched.

This brand new business has been founded by Fiona Fraser who has developed a range of hand made finish-at-home meals using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Dishes include slow braised Balcaskie beef shin lasagne and St Monans fish pie alongside a daily fresh pasta and sauce, soups, salads and puddings. After moving to Fife during the pandemic, Fiona has described Bothy Kitchen as the fulfilment of a dream she has held since attending catering college. Bothy Kitchen will be open Thursday to Sunday between 10am and 4pm (6pm on Fridays).

Fiona Fraser said

‘I really hope what we’re doing at Bothy Kitchen will allow locals and visitors to take home a slice of the East Neuk to enjoy at home. I think Bowhouse offers a unique community and support for businesses like mine, and from my first visit I knew I would be sharing an important message about the local sourcing of high quality food and drink from producers based at Bowhouse and beyond.’

The new business will open its doors as the programme for Bowhouse’s summer Market Weekends are launched. Free to attend, the events take place in the Market Hall at Bowhouse and welcome more than 50 of Scotland’s finest artisan food and drink producers. Shoppers will be able to fill their baskets with fresh produce, meat and fish, dairy and cheeses, store cupboard essentials, sweet treats and craft spirits and drinks from the local region and beyond. Hands-on activities and street food are also available.

In addition, a carefully curated group of talented craftspeople are selected by Tea Green Events for the June and August Market Weekends. Artists from across Scotland will showcase their ceramics, jewellery, textiles and gifts.

The summer Bowhouse Market Weekend dates comprise:

Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th June,

Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th July,

Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th August.

Each Market Weekend partners with a charity, providing an invaluable fundraising opportunity.

The June Market Weekend will have a Field to Fork theme, with charity partner the Woodland Trust. Bowhouse will be taking part in Open Farm Sunday providing the opportunity for visitors to see different farm animals, machinery and experience different farm activities like sheep shearing.

The following month, the July Market Weekend will have a Colour theme, celebrating vibrant fresh summer produce. The RSPB will host bird spotting walks in the surrounding fields and along the coastline.

The August Market Weekend will have a Heritage theme with Anstruther Fisheries Museum as the charity partner. The team from the museum will be providing a fascinating insight into the local farming and fishing heritage of the East Neuk, highlighting food and drink producers who use traditional methods of production and heritage ingredients.

Bothy Kitchen is joining a growing number of producers based permanently at Bowhouse:

  • Butchery at Bowhouse, which sells a range of grass-fed, organic Balcaskie Estate beef, lamb and mutton, alongside other local game and pork. Open Thursdays to Saturdays.

Based on the Balcaskie Estate in the East Neuk of Fife, Bowhouse opened as a makers hub for local food and drink producers in summer 2017, working to provide the missing link between farm and fork and working to benefit both producer and consumer. Its Market Weekends continue to attract thousands of visitors each month.

Bowhouse Market Weekends take place on Saturday and Sunday of the second weekend of each month.

The 2022 dates are as follows: 11th/12th June, 9th/10th July, 13th/14th August, 10th/11th September, 8th/9th October, 12th/13th November and 10th/11th December.

Those shopping for local food and drink can also make use of the Bowhouse Link, a weekly online market, which enables customers to continue shopping from local makers for pick up at Bowhouse or local delivery. Customers can shop Sunday to Wednesday from a range of selected producers. Orders are then packed for delivery or can be picked up at Bowhouse on the Saturday.  Visitors to the Market Weekends can use the Bowhouse Link service to pre-order before browsing the market stalls.

Based on Balcaskie Estate, Bowhouse opened in 2017 to provide the missing link between farm and fork, with a mission to connect maker with consumer.
