Dementia Awareness Week

Dementia Awareness Week (DAW) will run from Monday 29th May to Sunday 4th June.

Throughout DAW, which is held with the aim of raising awareness of dementia and helping to improve the lives of people with dementia, their families and carers, STA Member Sargent Group Consulting, are providing free, online Dementia Tourism Workshops for the travel, tourism and hospitality industry, every day from 10am-11am. DAW also offers the opportunity for tourism and hospitality businesses to consider how they can provide more accessible experiences for those with hidden and physical disabilities and welcome new customers from the dementia community.

For example, The University of Stirling’s internationally renowned Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC) has recently announced that it has developed a certification scheme to encourage pub and restaurant owners to make adaptations to better assist those with age-related degenerative conditions. The aim is to create a Google map to chart all dementia-friendly facilities across the UK. Find out more here.
