Fireworks Make it a Spectacular Saturday at St Andrews - but get there early

ST ANDREWS, September 29, 2023 – The St Andrews night sky will come alive with a spectacular fireworks display next week on the eve of the final day of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

An annual favourite with golfers, spectators and residents, this year the fireworks will begin at the earlier time of 7.45pm on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7 to be finished in time for the Ireland v Scotland Rugby World Cup clash which starts at 8.00pm.

The fireworks will take place on the West Sands, adjacent to the Old Course, and the best view will be from Links Road, behind the 17th green, and from the track in front of the Old Course Hotel. There will also be a screen on the 17^th which will transmit the start of the match.

The field for this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links includes defending champion and recent BMW PGA winner Ryan Fox, 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, two-time Alfred Dunhill Links winner Padraig Harrington, 2019 Team Champion Tommy Fleetwood, 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, Americans Billy Horschel and Matt Kuchar and a strong team of Scottish pro’s led by Bob MacIntyre, Ewen Ferguson and Connor Syme.

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship celebrates Links golf at its finest and is played over the Old Course St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. With a prize fund of US$5 million, it incorporates two separate competitions - an Individual Professional competition and a Team Championship in which the pro’s are paired with amateur golfers. This is the 22nd staging of the event which will take place from October 5 – 8.    

Among the amateurs taking part are Hollywood legends Catherine Zeta-Jones, Andy Garcia, Kathryn Newton and Matthew Goode, rock stars Ronan Keating, Tom Chaplin, Dave Farrell, Mike Rutherford, Huey Lewis and Tico Torres, and a remarkable team of sportsmen including footballers Gareth Bale and Ruud Gullit, US quarterback John Elway, Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave, cricketers Stuart Broad, Jimmy Anderson, Kevin Pietersen and Allan Lamb, record-breaking National Hunt jockey Sir Tony (A.P.) McCoy and Springbok star Schalk Burger Jnr.

For the first three days entry is FREE, tickets are not needed. Only tickets for the final day, Sunday, October 8, on the Old Course, need to be purchased.  There will be no ticket sales on the gate, tickets can be purchased in advance via the following link: www.alfreddunhilllinks.com/tickets/

In June 2011 the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation was established as the official Foundation of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The Foundation is committed to developing young amateur golfers in Scotland and South Africa and also supports the University of St Andrews and the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation, which refurbishes and preserves historical monuments in the town.
